Harrisonburg, VA – The Hofstra Volleyball team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the contest, but the Pride was unable to put the finishing touches on the match as James Madison rallied for a five-set win on Sunday afternoon at Sinclair Gymnasium.
Set scores were 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-16 and 15-9 in favor of James Madison. The loss ended a streak of 55 straight matches that Hofstra had won when leading two sets to zero in a match.
Hofstra falls to 14-8 overall and 5-2 in league play with the loss. The Dukes are now 16-3 and 6-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action.
The match was Hofstra's ninth five-set match of the season. It is the most in a single season since also playing nine during the 2012 campaign.

Nanishka Perez led Hofstra in that category. Hofstra got a double-double from junior setter
Hannah Klemm as she contributed 54 assists and 10 digs in the match. The kill total for Valente marked a new career-high.
Hofstra was clicking on all cylinders offensively in the opening two sets as the Pride hit at a .323 clip in set one and followed that up with a .371 attack percentage in the second set. That marked Hofstra's highest of the match.
James Madison responded offensively, though, and following a tough first set where the Dukes hit .057, JMU would not hit below .364 the rest of the match as they rallied for the win.

Veronika Kostova was also in double figures for Hofstra with 14 kills, while freshman libero
Luisa Domingues posted a team-high 21 digs.
Janey Goodman led James Madison with 21 kills and also added 10 digs and four blocks. Sarah Patterson posted 54 assists and nine digs in the contest, while Taylor Austin notched 28 digs for the Dukes.
Hofstra concludes its current stretch of five straight matches away from home next Friday when it travels to Delaware for a 7 p.m. encounter.
NOTES- Hofstra is now 23-11 all-time against James Madison.
- Hofstra's last loss when winning the first two sets of a match came on October 9, 2011 against UNCW. The Pride is now 80-2 over its last 82 matches in that scenario and 329-14 all-time when winning the first two sets of a match.
- The double-double was Klemm's team-leading fourth of the season.
- Valente's previous career-high of 17 kills was achieved three times, most recently at Wake Forest on September 19, 2015.
