VB: Hofstra Sweeps Delaware For 15th Win Of The Season

Newark, DE – Sophomore middle blocker Leticia Valente had 16 kills, while junior outside hitter Veronika Kostova and freshman outside hitter Nanishka Perez each added 13 kills to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Delaware on Friday evening at the Carpenter Sports Building.

Set scores were 27-25, 25-13 and 30-28 in favor of Hofstra, which improved to 15-8 overall and 6-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Delaware falls to 9-11 and 1-6 in league action with the loss.

It marked Hofstra's first sweep since a win over William & Mary on September 25 as each of the Pride's last three victories have come in five sets.

Hofstra had a strong showing offensively in the match as the Pride hit .314 in the contest, including a spectacular .481 in the second set as they dominated in the second stanza to open up the two sets to none lead in the match.

In front of a raucous Delaware crowd, Hofstra silenced the home fans with an exciting win in the final stanza. The Pride earned the win to finish off the Blue Hens after Delaware staved off several match points.

Junior setter Hannah Klemm had another outstanding match for the Pride with 51 assists to power the Hofstra offense. Freshman libero Luisa Domingues notched a match-high 22 digs for the Pride, while junior defensive specialist Sophia Black added 11 digs.

Katie Hillman led Delaware with 11 kills, while Julia Anderson had 23 assists and Ariel Shonk picked up 16 digs.

Hofstra has a bit of a break until it returns to action next Friday when the Pride entertain UNCW at 7 p.m. at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. That match will be the Pride's first home match since September 27 and will start a stretch of six straight home matches for Hofstra.

NOTES
- Hofstra improved to 46-18 all-time against Delaware and has won three straight against the Blue Hens.
- Hofstra is now 6-3 this season in three-set matches.
- The win ended a short two-match losing skid for the Pride, which went 3-2 on its recent stretch of five consecutive road matches.
