Simca Schoen tallied a career-high three goals and freshman
Samantha Schlegel added two goals and one assist to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 9-0 rout of the Towson Tigers in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Pride evened their CAA record at 1-1 on the season and improved to 11-4 overall with their ninth win in the last 10 games. Towson fell to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
In addition to Schoen and Schlegel, junior
Stella Schoen added a goal and two assists while classmate
Claudia Marin Samper added two assists. Redshirt sophomore
Lauren Saltus recorded her first career shutout and needed to make only two saves in the game.
Simca Schoen opened the scoring for the Pride with consecutive goals 42 seconds apart for a 2-0 lead at the 13:42 mark. The first goal was off a penalty corner with junior
Colby Hussong and Marin Samper assisting while the second was off a pass from her older sister Stella.
Schlegel added the next two Hofstra goals just 1:54 apart, scoring her sixth of the year from Marin Samper and then adding her seventh off a pass in front by
Stella Schoen. After dishing out the two assists,
Stella Schoen notched her 12th goal of the year just 42 seconds later off a pass from Schlegel as the Pride held a 5-0 lead at the break. Hofstra outshot the Tigers, 23-3 in the first half with Towson posting 14 first half saves.
Senior
Charlotte Loehr made it 6-0 for Hofstra 6:12 into the second half with her fifth goal of the year.
Simca Schoen then completed the hat-trick with her 10th of the season, tipping in a shot by junior
Emily Gallagher at the post. Freshman
Madison Sauve added her third goal of the season off a rebound at the 48:11 mark for a 8-0 advantage. Classmate
Madison Reed tallied her second of the season three minutes later to wrap up the scoring.
Hofstra outshot the Tigers, 44-3 for the game including 21-0 in the second half. Towson finished with 22 saves between Emilee Woodall (15 saves) and Megan Boyle (7 saves) and added two defensive saves.
The Pride will take a 12-day break before returning to action on Friday, October 23 at CAA-foe Northeastern.
