WBB: Hofstra Posts Wire-To-Wire Road Victory At Northeastern

Boston –  Freshman forward Ashunae Durant scored 13 points and recorded 10 rebounds and sophomore guard Kelly Loftus all but two of her 12 points in the first half as Hofstra posted a 66-45 road victory at Northeastern in a Thursday evening Colonial Athletic Association matchup from the Cabot Center at  Solomon Court.

Durant registered her second double-double in her last three games and sixth of the season and redshirt sophomore forward Anjie White finished two off her career high with 12 points. Loftus scored in double figures for the fourth time in the last five games to help Hofstra snap a two-game losing skid and improve to 13-7 and 6-3 in CAA play. The Pride swept the regular season series against Northeastern and is 18-18 all-time. Hofstra has won the last four games against the Huskies and has not lost to Northeastern since the 2012-13 regular season.

Kazzidy Stewart's 11 points paced Northeastern, though the Huskies dropped to 4-15 and 1-8. Samantha DeFreese added nine points off the bench.

Hofstra never trailed and built a 38-14 advantage in points in the paint with Durant and White creating offense down low. White shot 6-for-9 and fell one field goal shy of tying her career high of 14 points that was set against Northeastern earlier this month. The Pride entered the contest with at least one made three-pointer in 478 of the last 485 games but did not need to make one (0-for-7) to defeat a team by at least 21 points for the second time this season (a 78-53 home win over Charleston was the largest victory margin).

Junior guard Darius Faulk produced a balanced game from the point in scoring seven points and notching seven assists.

The Pride held Northeastern scoreless for a 5:19 stretch midway through the second half. The Huskies missed 10 consecutive field goal attempts and Hofstra capitalized by going up 47-30 on White's straight-away jumper and Faulk's layup as part of a 6-0 run that put the contest away.

Durant scored seven points in the final eight minutes of the opening half in helping Hofstra build a 35-25 edge at the break. The Pride then improved to 13-0 when leading at halftime this season.

Loftus scored 10 points to complement Durant's 11 heading into the break as the duo nearly matched Northeastern's team production. Hofstra forced four turnovers in a three-minute stretch to go ahead, 13-6, with five Hofstra players score points through the opening six minutes of the contest. NU went through an 0-for-5 stretch and  Hofstra capitalized when sophomore guard Krystal Luciano completed a three-point play to give Hofstra a 28-16 lead. Luciano had five points and three assists.

Northeastern closed to within 30-25 near the two-minute mark, but a Hofstra timeout sparked the Pride to close out the half strong, including Durant drawing a low-block foul and making the second free-throw for a double-digit halftime lead. Hofstra generated 12 turnovers and scored 15 points off the Northeastern miscues.

Head Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey started Edeferioka, Durant, Loftus, Faulk and Luciano for the eighth consecutive game and 14th time this season.

Hofstra will return home for the first of three straight games at the Mack Sports Complex on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Delaware. The Blue Hens defeated the Pride in Newark, Delaware on Jan. 15 with Hofstra now looking for the split.
