Hannah Klemm had an outstanding match with 36 assists and nine digs, while senior outside hitter
Kelsie Wills added a match-high 15 kills and eight digs to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a convincing three-set sweep of Long Island rival Stony Brook on Wednesday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Set scores were 29-27, 25-18 and 25-22 in favor of Hofstra, which improved to 4-1 this season with the victory. Stony Brook saw its record fall to 2-2 in 2014.
Senior outside hitter
Emily Burke contributed nicely to the Pride's efforts on the evening with 11 kills and six blocks.
With her 15 kills in the match, Wills moved into second place all-time at Hofstra in kills. She now has 1,516 and passed Jen Furlow (1,505 from 1990-93). Lena Malinowski is the all-time leader with 1,654 kills during her career which spanned from 1994-98.
The first set was a back and forth affair with both squads having multiple chances to put the stanza away. Hofstra would finally earn the win on its third try as the set went into "extra time" until the Pride picked up the narrow 29-27 win. The set was even offensively by both teams with Hofstra notching 18 kills and Stony Brook putting down 16.
The second set saw the Seawolves take an early 11-9 lead before the Pride stormed back with eight straight points to take a commanding 17-11 lead midway through the set. Stony Brook would never get closer than two the rest of the set before Hofstra pulled away for the dominating 25-18 win.
In the third set, a kill from Burke would break a 17-all tie and Hofstra would take a 23-19 lead following a service ace from Wills. The Pride would put the punctuation point on the victory as sophomore middle blocker
Veronika Kostova slammed down the final point of the match to give Hofstra the three-set sweep of the Seawolves.

Nuria Lopes da Silva had a match-high seven blocks for the Pride, while also adding six kills. Sophomore libero
Sophia Black picked up a match-high 13 digs for Hofstra.
Melissa Rigo led Stony Brook with 12 kills, while Nicole Vogel and Hannah Dolan each had 14 assists.
Hofstra returns to action on Friday when it takes part in the St. Francis Brooklyn Terrier Invitational. Hofstra will face the Terriers on Friday at 12 p.m. before taking on Manhattan later that day and NJIT on Saturday.
