Becky Celorio placed 75th to lead the Hofstra Women's Cross Country team to a 17th-place finish at the 20th annual Brother Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park Saturday.
Celorio (Scotia, NY) posted a time of 25:06 to lead the Pride in the 6K, 163-runner meet. It was the second time that she has led the Pride team in the three meets this season. Classmate
Lisa Eberwein (Coatesville, PA) was Hofstra's second finisher, placing 92nd in 26:14. Senior
Eva Holtermann (Staten Island, NY), last week's top Hofstra runner, placed 96th in 26:21.
Red-shirt freshman
Emily McLean (Jaffrey, NH) was Hofstra's fourth runner Saturday, clocking a time of 27:43 to finish 115th. Freshmen Irene Garidas (Holmdel, NJ) placed 123rd in 30:39 while Colleen Salcines (Granby, CT) was 128th in 35:09. It was the first race for Garidas and Salcines.
Hofstra placed 17th in the 20-team field with 501 points. Brown University, which placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 12, won the team title with 38 points. Yale, which placed all five of their runners in the top 25, was second with 86 points while Princeton was third with 141 points. Silvia Del Fava from Albany was the top individual, posting a time of 22:28 to edge her nearest competitor by three seconds.
Hofstra returns to action on Saturday, October 4 at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, PA. The multi-race meet begins at 10 a.m.
