MSOC: Hofstra Falls In Home Opener To Dartmouth

Hempstead, N.Y. – Sophomore Joseph Holland scored a goal for a second straight game and Hofstra doubled the opposition's shot output in the second half, but Dartmouth's two first-half goals were the difference as the Pride fell to the Big Green, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Holland scored in the 53rd minute off Elliott Firth's assist to cut the deficit in half. Dartmouth held on for the win behind Stefan Cleveland's five saves to give the Big Green (1-2) its first win of the season. Hofstra dropped to 2-2-2 overall in losing its home opener.

Alex Adelabu opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net on Tyler Dowse's pass for his first goal of the year. Dartmouth was able to take a two-goal lead into the half when Robin Alnas, who came on a reserve, put in Hugh Danilac's left-wing cross in the 39th minute. Dartmouth scored on its only two shots-on-goal in the period.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian McPartland made his collegiate debut to start the second half. McPartland, a native of Hicksville, New York, saved both on-target shots he faced to keep Hofstra in the contest.

In the second half, Hofstra out-shot Dartmouth, 8-4.

The Pride was able to close within 2-1 early in the second half. Firth, a senior midfielder, linked with Holland on a give-and-go. Holland finished by beating Cleveland to the left corner for his second goal of the season. Holland also scored in Hofstra's previous win at Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday.

Firth attempted to score the equalizer with a header in the 73rd minute that Cleveland stopped. Hofstra also generated three corner kicks in the 88th minute, but Dartmouth did not allow a shot in the sequence to hold on to the lead.

Senior forward Maid Memic led Hofstra with three shots but could not score a goal for a third straight game. Sophomores Nino Alfonso, Rory Murphy and Holland also had two shots while Firth added two. Freshman Meshack Eshun Addy came off the bench and registered one shot as well.

Hofstra will next be in action Friday with a non-conference road game at New Hampshire. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
