WSOC: Galton Named Finalist For College Boot Award

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra junior forward Leah Galton has been named a finalist for the 2014 Soccer News Net College Boot award, which recognizes the women's college player of the year.

Galton (Harrogate, England) was one of just 30 finalists and was nominated by Big Apple Soccer, which is the local Soccer News Net affiliate. Each nominated player will be eligible for the regional player of the year award. Six additional at-large selections rounded out the nominations.

Galton was named the Colonial Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season, becoming just the fifth player in CAA history to earn multiple Player of the Year honors. The junior tied teammate Sam Scolarici for the CAA lead with a career-high 17 goals, which also ranked 11th in Division I as of Nov. 13. Galton's 38 points also ranked 14th nationally.

Online fan voting will account for 40 percent of the total toward the award and goes until Dec. 16. The remaining 60 percent of the vote will be cast by the Soccer News Net editorial staff. The winner of the popular vote will receive the Soccer News Net Supporter's Choice Award.

Hofstra advanced to the CAA Tournament championship game before falling to a Northeastern team that has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Pride finished 2014 with a 13-7-1 record.
