Freshman forward
Rokas Gustys had a solid game on the rebounding side of the ball as he pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds, while graduate guard
Dion Nesmith added 13 points for the Pride.
North Carolina State got off to a hot start in the game as the Wolfpack scored the game's first seven points and led 7-0 with 17:21 left in the opening half following a basket from Trevor Lacey.
A three-pointer from junior forward
Ameen Tanksley cut the deficit to six, 11-5, nearly four minutes into the opening half, but NC State would open up a 14-point advantage on a pair of occasions before Hofstra gradually closed the gap.
With the deficit at 21-7, the Pride would chip away and use a 15-9 run to close the gap to eight, 30-22, with 6:09 left before intermission. Nesmith keyed the Hofstra spurt as he had back-to-back three-pointers for the Pride to finish the run.
The Wolfpack would take a 45-29 lead into the break as they closed the half by scoring eight of the final 12 points of the stanza. Green posted eight points, five rebounds and two assists in the opening half, while Nesmith tied him for team-high honors with eight points as well.
Hofstra would make a run in the second stanza as after NC State pushed its lead to 53-35 after two Lacey free throws with 15:55 left in regulation, the Pride would make its first significant run of the contest.
A free throw from Gustys would start a 10-2 Hofstra run that would close the gap to 55-46 with 12:47 to play following a Green three-pointer. Green had two three-pointers during the run, while baskets from Nesmith and Tanksley contributed to the spurt.
North Carolina State would push the lead back to double digits as Desmond Lee and Ralston Turner answered with layups to put the Wolfpack ahead, 61-49, with just over nine minutes left in the second half.
That would be enough breathing room for NC State as the Wolfpack would go on to capture the 12-point victory over the Pride.
Trevor Lacey had a double-double for NC State with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony Barber added 14 points for the Wolfpack.
