VB: Hofstra Drops Road Match To Towson

Towson, MD – Senior outside hitter Kelsie Wills tied for match-high honors with 18 kills, but it was not enough as the Hofstra Volleyball team fell to Towson in four sets on Friday evening at SECU Arena.

The loss ended a short three-match win streak for the Pride as Hofstra dropped to 22-4 overall and 10-2 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. Towson improved to 23-3 and 9-2 in league action.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-2, 12-25 and 25-21 in favor of the Tigers.

Senior middle blocker Nuria Lopes da Silva added 12 kills and five blocks for the Pride, which split the season series with the Tigers as both teams won on their respective home courts in four sets.

Saitaua Iosia tied Wills for match-high honors with 18 kills, while Paige Sekerak had 17 digs for the Tigers.

The first two sets were all Towson as the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match at home. The first set saw Towson never trail as they earned a convincing seven-point win. In the second stanza the two squads would be knotted at 21 before the Tigers scored three straight points to put the set out of reach en route to the narrow three-point win.

Hofstra would need to respond in the third set to stay in the match and the Pride did just that as Hofstra broke a 3-3 tie with six straight points to lead 9-3. Will had a pair of kills during the run to pace the Pride. Towson battled back to get to within 10-8 later in the set, but Hofstra put together a 13-2 run and would go on to dominate Towson in the set to the tune of a 13-point win.

The fourth set would be the tightest of the entire match with neither team able to pull away. A late kill from Wills would give Hofstra a 21-20 lead as the Pride was looking to force a fifth and final set. But Towson had other ideas as the Tigers scored five straight points to close the set and earn the win in the match.
Sophomore setter Hannah Klemm added 43 assists for the Pride, which got a team-high 10 digs from junior defensive specialist Kaitlyn Krause

Victoria Williams added 14 kills and five blocks for Towson.

Hofstra returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Sacred Heart in the Pride's final non-conference match of the season. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The Pride will return to CAA play on Friday, November 7 when it travels to Northeastern for a 7 p.m. contest.
