MSOC: Hofstra Clinches CAA Tournament Spot With Draw Versus NU

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra mustered 24 total shots, including six after regulation, but Northeastern's Dylan Faber made 10 saves as the Pride and Huskies played to a 0-0 tie in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Wednesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Sophomore Joseph Holland logged six shots and senior Maid Memic posted five, but Faber made three saves in double overtime alone. Hofstra moved to 9-5-3 and 4-2-1 in CAA play and now has 13 points. Northeastern went to 6-10-1 and 3-3-1 for 10 points.

Elon won its game against CofC, moving into first place with 14 points. UNCW has 13 points, as does Hofstra and Delaware with one regular season game remaining. Hofstra does not have the tiebreaker against UNCW or Delaware but does possess it over Elon.

The top-six of the nine teams qualify for the conference tournament, and the most points CofC can accrue is five and Drexel is seven. William & Mary ended its regular season with 10 points, meaning Hofstra clinched a spot in the CAA Tournament field.

Hofstra generated chances to take the lead, including Holland's 85th-minute header off freshman Danny Elliott's cross that went just wide. Faber stopped Holland's on-target attempt with 1:56 remaining in regulation.

Senior Elliott Firth fired a head-on shot in the 62nd minute that Faber also stopped. The NU netminder made four saves in the opening half, three in the second and three after regulation. Counterpart Patric Pray made three saves for the Pride for his sixth individual shutout of the season.

Pray has played in all seven of Hofstra's clean sheets this season, including the team's other scoreless draw in the season opener versus Northern Illinois on Aug. 29.

Hofstra will conclude the regular season on Saturday versus CofC at 7 p.m. in a game that will have major ramifications for seeding. The top-two finishers earn a bye to the semifinals with the top seed earning the right to host the last two championship rounds.
