FH: Boileau’s Hat-Trick Leads Hofstra Past Delaware For Fifth Straight Win

Newark, DE – Senior Jonel Boileau tallied three goals and sophomore Stella Schoen added three assists to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 5-2 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at Fred Rullo Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The victory, Hofstra's fifth consecutive win, boosts the Pride record to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the CAA. Delaware, the defending CAA champions, slipped to 10-7 on the year and 4-1 in conference play.

The Hofstra victory puts the Pride in a three-way tie, with William and Mary and Northeastern, for second-place in the CAA standings. Hofstra will host William and Mary on Friday and James Madison, which is 2-2 in the CAA, on Sunday in the final regular season weekend of play. The top four teams in the league will advance to the CAA Championship to be held at the site of the top seed on November 7-9.

Boileau, the senior captain from Kelowna, BC, Canada, recorded her first hat-trick of the season and the third of her career, scoring once in the first half and twice in the second session. She now has 15 goals on the season which ranks tied for sixth on Hofstra's single-season goal list. Boileau now has 47 career goals to move into fourth place, ahead of Charlia Warner's 45 from 2005-2008, on the Pride's career scoring charts. She also moved into fourth place on the Hofstra career-points list with 111 points, passing Warner (105) and Edith Gallagher (106 from 1986-89).

Schoen, a second-year standout from Hamburg, Germany, recorded a career-high three assists in the contest, dishing out helpers on all three of Boileau's goals. Senior Holy Andrews and sophomore Claudia Marin Samper scored the other two Hofstra goals. Freshman goalie Carys Swan made five saves for her 12th victory of the season.

The Pride jumped on the Blue Hens early, scoring the first three goals of the contest to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. Holly Andrews opened the scoring for the Pride at the 23:42 mark on a penalty stroke for her first goal of the year. Four minutes later, Boileau notched her 13th of the season off a pass from Stella Schoen for a 2-0 advantage. Almost three minutes after that, Claudia Marin Samper tallied her 13th goal of the season for the year and the three-goal advantage at the break. Hofstra outshot the Blue Hens, 8-7 and had five penalty corners to UD's three.

Delaware got on the board just 2:55 into the second half as sophomore Maddie O'Beirne scored her first goal of the year off a pass from Marjelle Scheffers. But Hofstra responded with Boileau's second and third of the game nine minutes apart to boost the lead to 5-1.

Delaware junior Michaela Patzner closed out the scoring in the contest in the 66th minute, on a penalty stroke, for her ninth goal of the year. The Blue Hens outshot the Pride, 7-4 in the second half and 14-12 in the contest. Swan made four of her five saves in the contest in the second half for Hofstra. UD also had nine penalty corners in the game to the Pride's seven.

Hofstra returns to action on Friday, October 31 when the Pride host the Tribe of William and Mary at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
