Williamsburg, VA – The Hofstra Volleyball team extended its win streak to 10 consecutive matches as the Pride swept William & Mary, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20, on Friday evening at Kaplan Arena.
Senior outside hitter
Kelsie Wills led Hofstra with 18 kills and 11 digs for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season, while sophomore setter
Hannah Klemm notched 39 assists and six digs for the Pride. Senior middle blocker Nuria Lopes Da Silva added nine kills and a team-best four blocks.
The win moved the Pride's record to a stellar 19-2 overall and a 7-0 mark in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The 10 straight wins is the sixth longest win streak in program history and the longest since a 12-match streak during the 2006 campaign.
William & Mary falls to 5-17 and 1-6 in conference play with the defeat.
After a narrow two-point in the first set, Hofstra was able to take control with a 25-21 win in the second stanza. The Pride held the Tribe to just six kills in the set as they putaway 14 themselves. The strong defensive effort would allow Hofstra to open up the commanding two sets to none lead in the contest.
In the third set, Hofstra would trail 10-9 before a kill from senior outside hitter
Emily Burke started a 8-1 scoring run for the Pride that pushed their advantage to 17-11 following a kill from Wills. Lopes da Silva and Wills keyed the run as they each had a pair of kills during the spurt. William & Mary would close to within three later in the set, but a kill from sophomore outside hitter
Veronika Kostova started a set-ending 3-1 run that pushed the Pride to its 12th victory by way of a sweep this season.
Sophomore libero
Sophia Black led Hofstra with 13 digs, while Kostova and Burke each chipped in with nine kills.
Dessi Koleva posted a team-high 10 kills for William & Mary, while Sara Zumbach had 14 digs to lead all players in that category.
Hofstra returns to the court tomorrow at 7 p.m. when it heads to James Madison.
