Philadelphia, PA - Hofstra rallied twice in the contest to take leads, but Tim Lazorko scored the tying goal with 50 seconds left in regulation for Saint Joseph's and neither team could score in overtime in a 3-3 tie at Sweeney Field Friday night.
Following a scoreless opening half, the Hawks (0-1-2) opened the scoring just 1:45 into the second stanza as Jake Nelson converted a cross from Tommy Brooks for a 1-0 lead. But the Pride's Tyler Botte started a two-goal rally for the Pride with his first of the season, an unassisted tally at the 48:13 mark to tie the game. Chris Griebsch put the Pride ahead with a penalty kick goal at 50:55 to make it 2-1 in favor of Hofstra. The goal was his team-leading second of the season.
Nelson tied the game at the 64:28 mark as he successfully converted a penalty kick as well. The Pride would battle back once again and take a 3-2 lead at 81:17 as Maid Memic took a feed from Griebsch and beat SJU keeper Andrew D'Ottavi up high. The Pride could not preserve the lead as Lazorko beat a diving Roberto Pellegrini to the right side of the net for the equalizer in the final minute. The goal came off of a free kick.
Both teams clamped down on defense in the extra sessions as Hofstra registered the only shot in overtime, coming off the foot of Reece Alexander in the first overtime.
Pellegrini finished with one save for the Pride while D'Ottavi made six saves for the Hawks. Hofstra held a 17-10 advantage in shots.
The Pride return to action Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
