WTEN: Hofstra Gets Past Fairfield

Hempstead, NY - Sarah Bowen, Malissa Gilanchi, Louise Lopez and Paige Polizois each won a pair of matches on the day as Hofstra dumped Fairfield, 5-2, Thursday afternoon at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.

The Pride (4-6) won four singles matches and all three doubles matches for their second straight victory. Fairfield fell to 4-6 with the loss.

The Pride opened the match by taking the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Bowen and Sonia Tsay defeated Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn, 9-7, at first doubles. Gilanchi and Bianca Derrick posted an 8-4 win at second doubles over Allison Radde and Sharissa Ryan. Polizois and Lopez won by the same score over Victoria Pirrello and Nikki Jackson at third doubles.

Bowen would defeat Yajima at first singles, 7-5 and 6-4, for her second win of the day. Gilanchi also picked up win number two with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Koldazyn at the third flight. Lopez downed Pirrello, 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles before Polizois grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Emma Samson at the sixth flight.

Ryan had a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tsay at second singles and Margaret McLaughlin won 6-1, 6-2 over Derrick at fifth singles for Fairfield's two points.

Hofstra returns to the court Saturday at George Mason.
