Brookline, MA – Northeastern's Terence Carter scored in the first half and Dante Marini added a penalty kick goal as part of a three-point night in Hofstra's 2-0 defeat to the Huskies in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Wednesday night at Parsons Field.
Sophomore goalkeeper Patric Pray made a career-high seven saves, though Hofstra still had its four-game winning streak snapped. The Pride dropped to 6-4-1 and 1-1 in league play while Northeastern improved to 5-4-2 and 2-0.
Dylan Faber made four saves for Northeastern as the Pride fell in a rematch of last season's CAA championship game. Senior forward Chris Griebsch led Hofstra with four shots.
Carter scored from about 10 yards out to give NU a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. Robbie Schallmo tipped Dante Marini's cross to set up Carter in the box. The Huskies attacker netted his fourth scoring strike of the season.
Marini put the Huskies ahead, 2-0, after scoring on a spot-kick. Marini intercepted a clear attempt and charged to the Hofstra net before being taken down in the 18-yard box, setting up the penalty kick in the 51st minute.
Pray, who started his career with three straight shutouts, gave up a goal for the first time in five career appearances on Carter's goal. But Pray kept Hofstra in the game and ensured the deficit stayed at 2-0 when he jumped to make a save on Jonathan Eckford's header near the right post in the 63rd minute.
Carter's goal ended Hofstra's shutout streak at 359:10, dating to a Monmouth first-half goal on Sept. 22. It also marked the first goal Pray allowed in his career as his personal shutout streak to start his career ended at 314:23.
