Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Volleyball team will begin a four-match road trip this week as the Pride heads to Towson and Delaware for their first road conference matches of the season.
Hofstra will take on Towson on Friday at 3 p.m. before facing Delaware at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
In total, the Pride will play five of their next seven matches on the road as they get into the heart of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) slate.
Hofstra (10-6, 1-1 CAA) is coming off a 1-1 week that saw the Pride defeat UNCW in four sets on Friday before dropping a tough five-set match to Charleston on Sunday. The loss to CofC ended a nine-match home court win streak for Hofstra dating back to last season.
Junior outside hitter Kelsie Wills starred for the Pride as she totaled 41 kills, a .356 attack percentage and averaged 4.56 kills per set in the two matches. After totaling match-highs of 19 kills and 16 digs against the Seahawks, Wills was arguably the best player on the court in Sunday's match against Charleston as she posted a match-high 22 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and two service aces.
The contest against the Cougars lived up to its billing as the two squads went the distance like a heavyweight title fight. Both squads are coming off appearances in the NCAA Tournament a season ago and Charleston began its first season in the CAA as the conference favorite. Hofstra showed what it was made of as the Pride gave CofC all it could handle and more.
With her 41 kills, Wills now has 1,199 career kills to move into seventh place all-time at Hofstra. This season she has 264 kills, 131 digs, 34 blocks, 20 service aces and 12 assists. She ranks first in kills, second in digs, second in service aces and fourth in blocks. Her 4.55 kills per set average leads the Pride as well.
The matches against Towson and Delaware will mark the Pride's first against them since facing both in the CAA Championship a season ago. Hofstra defeated William & Mary, Towson and Delaware in the conference tournament en route to the CAA title that clinched a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the Pride. It was a stunning upset for Hofstra over Towson as the Pride defeated the Tigers in five sets to advance to the championship match. Towson had entered that match 12-0 in conference play and had only lost a total of six sets in conference all season prior to that match. Following that victory, the Pride would go on and defeat Delaware in five sets after rallying from a two sets to one deficit in the match.
