Box Score Harrisonburg, Va. - Heavy rain has canceled Hofstra's
scheduled Colonial Athletic Association game at James Madison University on
Sunday. The contest, originally set for a 12 p.m. start, is not expected to be
made up.
The Pride won the opener of a doubleheader against the
Dukes on Saturday, 2-0, and led 4-0 in the top of the sixth in Game 2 when rain
suspended that contest. That game is now officially a 4-0, 5-inning victory for
Hofstra. The Pride improved to 28-13 overall and 13-0 in CAA play with the
two-game sweep in battle of first-place teams in the league. Hofstra is now
ahead of the Dukes by 3 ½ games after JMU fell to 24-23 and 10-4.
Junior pitcher Olivia Galati threw two complete-game
shutouts in the series. She did not allow a hit through five innings in the
second game and since the game is officially concluded, Galati registered her
third five-inning no-hitter of the season and the sixth no-hitter of her
career, tying Stacy Jackson
(1992-95) for the most no-hitters in program history.
Fellow junior Tessa Ziemba
hit her team-leading 11th home run in the first inning of the second game,
lining an opposite-field two-run home run to tie for the CAA lead in homers.
Galati made the run support
stand up. JMU's only base runner came in the second when pitcher Sarah Mooney
drew a one-out walk. Galati (21-5) recorded
her 11th shutout and 24th complete game in winning her 19th straight start.
The Pride will next be in action in a non-conference tilt
against Princeton on Tuesday at 5 p.m. from Hofstra Softball Stadium.
