New York, NY - Hofstra opened the 2012 spring campaign with a 7-0 loss at Columbia Friday morning. The Pride was unable to break through in the win column in any of the contested matches and fell to 0-1 on the season.
Columbia won all three doubles matches to take the point headed into singles play.
The Lions then won each of the six individual matches starting with with Kat Kovacevic's win over the Pride's Bianca Derrick, 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles. Iaona Alecsiu posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in the #2 singles slot over Sonia Tsay, before Nicole Bartnik clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Elena Ivanova at first singles.
Columbia's Chelsea Davis recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over the Pride's Brooke Sailer at the #5 flight, while Amy Li defeated Paige Polizois, 6-1, 6-0, at sixth singles. Crystal Leung closed the dual with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Malissa Gilanchi at #3 singles.
Hofstra is back in action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Siena at the Cunningham Indoor Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
