MSOC: Pride Clinch 4th Seed With Draw

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Pride men's soccer team clinched the #4 seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championship with a 2-2 draw against William & Mary Friday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Pride tied the score with just under nine minutes to play on a William & Mary own goal.

Hofstra, which will host a first round game Monday against either UNCW or George Mason, sees its record move to 11-5-2, 5-4-1 in the CAA. William & Mary sees its season end at 4-10-4, 2-5-3 in league action.

The Tribe opened the scoring at the 18:38 mark as Chris Albiston took a pass from Chris Perez on the left side of the box and blasted a shot into the far corner for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Albiston's third of the season.

Hofstra scored the equalizer 5:11 later as Tyler Botte headed in a Chris Griebsch corner kick for his fifth tally of the year. The assist was Griebsch's team-leading 10th of the season.

But William & Mary answered back at the 38:42 mark as Zachary Montebell notched his first of the season after taking a through ball from Perez and breaking in on goal.

The score stayed that way until late in the second half when Hofstra was awarded its fourth corner kick in just about three minutes as the Pride applied late pressure. Griebsch sent a low cross towards the near post that Tribe defender Ben Coffey deflected with his head into the goal to tie the score at 2-2.

The two teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods before settling for the draw.

Pride keeper Adam Janowski made six saves in goal, while his William & Mary counterpart, Alex Harrington, was called on to make five saves.

Hofstra outshot the Tribe, 25-22, and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

The time for Hofstra's first round match, as well as opponent, will be announced on GoHofstra.com when they are determined following the conclusion of play around the league Friday night.
