VB: Hofstra Falls To South Dakota State

Springfield, MO - Kelli Fiegen had 14 kills and six blocks to lead South Dakota State to a three-set win over Hofstra on Friday evening at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Missouri State.

Hofstra lost in three sets despite close scores, dropping the match 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19. 

Freshman outside hitter Kelsie Wills led Hofstra with nine kills, while also adding 10 digs.  Junior libero Kylee Maneja picked up a match-high 17 digs, while senior middle blocker Anissa Whitney chipped in with eight kills and a .545 hitting percentage.

Hofstra was unable to get on track offensively in the match as they managed just a .078 hitting percentage.  In addition, after holding South Dakota State to a .111 attack percentage in the opening stanza, the Jackrabbits hit over .300 in both the second and third sets.

The loss was Hofstra's second straight after opening the season with seven straight wins.  The 7-0 start is the third-best in program history.  South Dakota State improved to 8-2 with the win.

Hofstra returns to the court tomorrow when it takes on Missouri State at 1 p.m. and Arkansas State at 6 p.m.
