2/10/2011 1:55:00 AM

Atlanta, GA - Senior guard Charles Jenkins (Queens, N.Y.) had 28 points on 10-15 shooting to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to a 79-68 win over Georgia State on Wednesday evening at the GSU Sports Arena.

With the win, the Pride improves to 16-9 and 10-4 in the CAA, clinching a winning season in league play. Georgia State falls to 10-14 overall and 5-9 in the CAA with the loss. The win was also pivotal, as James Madison defeated Drexel, giving Hofstra a two-game cushion over fifth place, putting it in great shape to capture one of the top four seeds which receive first-round byes in the CAA Tournament.

The Pride led by as many as 18 in the second half at 56-38 on a Jenkins three-pointer. Georgia State was able to chip away at the lead and get as close as six at 69-63 with four minutes to play on a put-back from Eric Buckner. Sophomore forward David Imes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) knocked down two foul shots coming out of the final media timeout with 3:17 left after the Pride had three offensive rebounds in rapid succession before he was fouled.

Two Buckner foul shots made it 74-68 with 1:37 left, but the Pride closed out the scoring with five foul shots to capture the win.

Hofstra came out on fire early, as all five starters hit a jump shot, including three-pointers from Jenkins, junior guard Mike Moore (New Haven, Conn.) and senior guard Brad Kelleher (Victoria, Australia), to stake the Pride to a 13-4 lead at the first media timeout. Georgia State got as close as six points at 30-24, but Hofstra used two more three-pointers from sophomore guard Yves Jules (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kelleher in a  closing 8-2 run to take a comfortable 38-26 lead into the break.

Senior forward Greg Washington (Centereach, N.Y.) had 13 points and five blocks, while Moore added 12 for the Pride, while Kelleher had 10 points and eight assists. Jihad Ali, who's sister India played on the women's basketball team at Hofstra, led the Panthers with 19.

Hofstra will next be in action on Saturday when it travels to Delaware for a 2 p.m. contest before returning home to face William & Mary on Tuesday at 7 p.m., its second to last home game of the 2010-11 regular season.
