WSOC: Pride Hosts Hofstra Invitational This Weekend

9/3/2010 1:18:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Soccer team will host the first in-season tournament in program history when it holds the Hofstra Invitational this weekend, along with St. John's, Fordham and Rhode Island.

Friday's games will feature St. John's and Fordham kicking off at 4:30 p.m., followed by Hofstra and Rhode Island at 7 p.m. Sunday will see St. John's and Rhode Island face each other at 1 p.m., followed by Hofstra and Fordham at 3 p.m. The Sunday games will both be televised by the Verizon FiOS1 Network on tape delay.

Hofstra has never hosted an in-season tournament, although it did once serve as the site for the Colonial Athletic Association championship in 2003, after winning the regular season title that year.

The Pride will be looking to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat to seventh-ranked Boston College on Friday. Hofstra was only outshot 11-9 in that contest, but the Eagles scored goals on three of their first four shots in the game's first 18 minutes to take control early.

Hofstra is 9-2-1 all-time against Fordham, with the last meeting a 2-0 win in 2008, and has never faced Rhode Island. The Pride will not face St. John's this weekend, which will prevent a sister match-up of Hofstra sophomore Danielle Murino (Bohemia, NY) and St. John's freshman Michelle Murino.
