3/29/2010 7:45:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Freshman Olivia Galati (West Babylon, NY) was named the CAA Softball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today by the conference office.

Galati went 3-0 with an 0.96 ERA in the circle for the Pride, which improved to 17-5 on the season and started out conference play with a three-game sweep of Delaware. She began the week with a non-conference win over St. John's, allowing six hits, striking out eight and walking none in a 6-2 win on Wednesday. She then picked up two wins in the Delaware series, throwing a five-hitter with no earned runs in a 10-1 win on Saturday, and a three-hitter with one earned run, 11 strikeouts and one walk in a 3-2, eight-inning win on Sunday.

For the season, Galati improved her record to 10-2 with a 1.37 ERA, to go along with 97 strikeouts and only 16 walks. Both of her losses have come to nationally ranked teams (No. 2 Michigan and No. 18 Florida State), while seven of her wins have come against BCS conference schools (North Carolina State, Michigan State, South Florida, Mississippi State, Louisville, Connecticut, St. John's).

Galati has also been honored by the CAA in four out of five possible weeks this season. Twice, she earned both the CAA Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors in the same week (Feb. 23 and March 16). She was also named the CAA Rookie of the Week on March 22, and earned the CAA Pitcher of the Week honor this week. Teammate Erin Wade (Taunton, MA) earned the CAA Pitcher of the Week on March 2, while Hofstra was idle the week prior to the March 9 selections.

Galati and Hofstra will next be in action when they face Maryland on Tuesday in a road doubleheader before returning home for a three-game series against George Mason for Easter weekend, including a doubleheader on Friday at 12 noon and a single game on Saturday at 12 noon.
