Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Men's and Women's Tennis teams dropped their season openers on Sunday night to NJIT as the women suffered a 4-2 defeat, while the men lost by the score of 7-0.
In the women's match, the Pride got wins from Lauren Clifton at second singles and from Sonia Tsay at sixth singles. Clifton easily defeated Anine Lovdal, 6-1, 6-1, while Tsay used a 6-0, 6-4 win at sixth singles to pick up the Pride's other win.
Fanny Aizier's win at fifth singles was the clincher in the match as Aizier defeated Brooke Sailer, 6-1, 6-3, to give the Highlanders the victory.
In the men's match, NJIT won all eight completed matches to earn the win over Hofstra. In singles play, Hofstra got its closest match at sixth singles as Eric Gladstone fell, 6-4, 6-3, to Bryan Keelan.
Josh Levinson and Ben Thompson-Star lost a hard-fought 8-6 decision at first doubles for the Pride as well.
Both teams return to action on Saturday when they face Bryant at 2 p.m. That match will take place at the Hartford Racket Club in Hartford, Connecticut.
