12/5/2010 10:15:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Basketball team placed five players in double figures and led by as many as 36 points en route to a 89-73 victory over Fairfield on Sunday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex.

Leading the way for Hofstra with 13 points apiece was junior guard Nicole Capurso, sophomore guard Candace Bond and freshman guard Kate Loper.  Joining those three in double figures with 11 points each were junior guard Candice Bellocchio and freshman guard Annie Payton

Bellocchio had a stellar all-around game as she dished out 11 assists to go along with her 11 points, while only turning the ball over one time in 29 minutes of play.  It marks the first career double-double for Bellocchio.

With 89 points in the game today it marked the third straight game that Hofstra has scored at least 80 points.  The last time Hofstra scored 80 or more points in three straight non-overtime games was from January 14-20, 1989.

The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improves the Pride's record to 4-1 this season.  Fairfield falls to 4-3 with the loss.

Hofstra would take a commanding 44-25 lead into the break as they used an early 16-6 run to turn an 8-6 advantage into a 24-12 lead at the 9:32 mark following a layup from senior guard Aamira Terry

Hofstra got solid efforts in the first half from several contributors as Loper led the way with nine points, while Bond and Bellocchio each chipped in with eight.

The Pride took its first 20-point lead of the contest late in the opening stanza as Bond kick-started a 12-2 run with a jumper and a four-point play from Loper ended the run and put Hofstra ahead 36-16 with 4:38 left in the first half.

Hofstra was never challenged in the second half as the Pride lead never got below 16 points and Hofstra took its largest lead of the game at 71-35 with 10:57 left on a three-pointer from Payton.

The 13 points for Bond is the first double-digit game of her career as she shot 6-10 from the field against the Stags.

Joelle Nawrocki led Fairfield with 13 points and Taryn Johnson added 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Hofstra will look for its fifth straight win on Thursday when they travel to Niagara for a 7 p.m. contest.  Hofstra's last win streak of at least five games was a seven-game streak from November 29-December 30, 2008.
