Hempstead, NY - The
Hofstra Pride Wrestling team has climbed into the National Wrestling Coaches
Association/USA Today Division I Team Coaches Poll, the NWCA announced on
Tuesday. The Pride made their debut in this year's poll at number 25.
Hofstra, 2-2-1 on the season heading into the Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational
on December 3-4, is coming off a 1-1-1 day at the Missouri Duals in Columbia,
Missouri Sunday. The Pride let a 19-9 lead slip away to be tied by current #13
Oregon State, 19-19; let a 15-10 advantage slip away in a 19-15 loss to current
#16 Missouri; and crushed NAIA-power Lindenwood, 35-12.
Individually, five Pride wrestlers are ranked this week in the weekly polls
conducted by InterMat, WIN, Amateur Wrestling News (AWN) and Division I College
Wrestling (DICW). Leading Hofstra is senior
Lou Ruggirello (Walden, NY), off to a 4-1 start with three pins and
ranked sixth by AWN and DICW and eighth by InterMat and WIN at 133 pounds.
Junior P.J. Gillespie (Long Beach, NY),
5-0 on the season at 165 pounds, is ranked sixth by DICW, seventh by InterMat,
eighth by AWN and 10th by WIN. Senior Ryan Patrovich (Bohemia, NY), 3-1 on the season at 174, is ranked 13th by WIN
and DICW, 14th by AWN and 15th by InterMat. Sophomore Steve Bonanno (Wantagh, NY), 3-2 on the season at 125 pounds, is
ranked 15th by DICW and 19th by InterMat and WIN. Sophomore Justin Accordino (Wilkes-Barre, PA), 3-2 at 149 pounds, is ranked
19th by DICW and 20th by InterMat.
