PRIDE DROPS FIRST GAME OF SEASON AT FDU

9/6/2009 10:45:00 PM

Teaneck, NJ (Sept. 6) - Dominic Reinold and Paul King each scored two first-half goals as the Fairleigh Dickinson Men's Soccer team earned a 4-1 win over Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at University Field.

The loss drops Hofstra's record to 1-1 on the year, while FDU improves to 2-0.

Junior forward Johannes Grahn (Tibro, Sweden) put Hofstra on the board with 36:27 remaining in the second half when he got to a deflected shot from freshman defender Thomas Bekas (Brentwood, NY) inside the box and slipped a 12-yard shot into the left side of the net to make the score 4-1. Bekas' assist marked his first career point.

Reinold gave Fairleigh Dickinson a 1-0 lead at the 11:20 mark of the first half when he took a short pass from Christian Vasconez and cranked a left-footed shot from the top of the 18-yard box that took one hop and bounced past the dive of Hofstra goalkeeper Greg Cumpstone (Haddam, NY) and inside the left post.

The Knights tacked on another goal at the 22:25 mark as Paul King scored on a spectacular one-timer from a sharp angle. Chris Faraone played a long direct kick from behind midfield after a Hofstra foul, and the ball bounced along the right edge of the box. King ran on to it behind the Pride defense, and one-timed a perfect dipping 15-yard shot over Cumpstone's head and inside the far post.

Reinold scored his second goal of the game at the 27:34 mark to stretch the lead to 3-0. FDU came forward on a counter-attack and King played a long diagonal ball from along the right sideline. Reinold ran onto it unmarked just inside the top of the box and cracked a 15-yard shot into the left side of the net to make the score 3-0.

King extended the lead to 4-0 with 3:36 left in the first half when he converted from six yards off a pretty set-up from his teammates. Vasconez played a long cross from the right side to the far post, and Reinold headed the ball back into the middle. King was waiting unmarked at the top of the six, and blasted home his second goal of the half.

Hofstra will next be in action when it travels to play in the Penn State Classic this weekend, facing the host Nittany Lions on Friday evening at 7:30 and then meeting Ohio State on Sunday at 12 noon.
