Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Tennis lost its first dual match of the season on Tuesday as they were defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, in a match that took place at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York.
In doubles play, Hofstra got a solid outing out of its number two doubles team of junior Lauren Clifton and freshman Malissa Gilanchi, who dropped an 8-6 decision to Julia Prantl and Ksenia Chernyshova of FDU.
Singles action would see one match go to three sets and a pair of others go to tiebreakers before the Knights were able to pull out the victory.
Junior Christie Gattelaro lost a tough 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision at fourth singles to Egzona Morina in the longest singles match during the dual, while senior Zoe Taylor and freshman Sonia Tsay each battled their opponent to a tiebreaker in the first set.
Taylor lost 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 to Elmine Botes at first singles, while Tsay fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to Prantl at third singles.
Hofstra returns to action on October 1 when they travel to the Sergio Tacchani Collegiate Invitational in Norfolk, Virginia. The tournament will run through October 4.
