State College, PA - Corey Hertzog scored two first half goals as the Penn State Men's Soccer team captured a 5-1 win over Hofstra on the first day of the Penn State Classic on Friday evening.

With the win, Penn State improves to 3-1 on the season, while Hofstra drops to 1-2.

Hertzog scored at the 15:57 and 22:43 marks to stake the Nittany Lions to a quick 2-0 lead. Matheus Braga stretched the lead to 3-0 with 13:33 left in the first half.

Hofstra responded with a quick goal just 5:30 into the second half, as senior midfielder Rory McCrea (Sherburn-In-Elmet, England) converted his first goal of the season when he knocked in a corner kick from freshman midfielder Mike Annarumma (Massapequa Park, NY). Annarumma picked up his first collegiate point on the play.

Penn State, though, quickly ended any Pride comeback hopes, responding just 7:18 later on another goal from Braga. Drew Cost capped off the scoring with 17:23 left in the game for the Nittany Lions.

Warren Gross had three saves for Penn State to get the win as the Nittany Lions held an 18-10 edge in shots.

Hofstra will next be in action when it faces Ohio State on the second day of the Penn State Classic on Sunday at 12 noon.
