Heating Up; Hofstra Blanks Stony Brook For Third Consecutive Win

Hempstead, NY - Laurie Goddard delivered his second brace in less than a week and Daniel Burko added a third Hofstra goal to lead the offense, while keeper Gino Cervoni made four saves as the Pride won its third consecutive game with a 3-0 CAA victory over Stony Brook Saturday night at Captains Field.

Hofstra moved to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0 in league play with the win. The Seawolves dropped to 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in CAA action with the loss.

Goddard scored his first goal of the game and fifth of the season on a penalty kick at the 23:24 mark of the first half. Evangelos Chrysostomou drew the foul in the box, though it was not initially called. Following a video review, the referee called the infraction and awarded the penalty.

The Pride took a 2-0 lead at 53:04 on Goddard's second of the game. Samuel Francou played a ball into the box that was volleyed by Joe Duffy to Goddard, who sent a shot past Stony Brook keeper Rushon Sandy. Hofstra would close the scoring at 75:06 as Burko headed in Thengill Orrason's throw-in for his fourth of the season. The throw, from just inside the corner flag, found Burko at the near post and he was able to send it over Sandy and in from the tough angle.

Cervoni made three of his four saves in the second half and improved to 3-0-0 on the season. The four saves were a career-best.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday night in Burlington, Vermont for a matchup against the defending National Champion Catamounts of the University of Vermont. The game is a rematch of the 2024 NCAA Second Round contest that saw the Catamounts eke out a 2-1 win over the Pride.
