Opening up at 125 pounds, Edinboro's top-ranked senior Paul Donahoe jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second period on the way to an 8-3 victory over Hofstra's 20th-ranked freshman Steve Bonanno (24-12). Donahoe, the defending national champion, is 27-0 on the season. Pride junior Lou Ruggirello, with back points in the second and a takedown in the third, put Hofstra on the board at 133 pounds with a 5-0 decision over the Fighting Scots' 19th-ranked senior Ricky Deubel (23-10). But the Fighting Scots opened some breathing room in the next two matches as sophomore Torsten Gillespie posted his second tech fall of the season and improved to 24-14 with 17-2 tech fall at the 5:14 mark over Pride sophomore Jeff Rotella (4-9). Torsten's older brother senior Gregor, who is the top-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds, boosted Edinboro's lead to 14-6 with a pin of freshman Fran O'Brien (0-3) in 3:59. Gillespie, the 2007 national champion, improved to 33-0 on the year.

Patrovich, who improved to 16-6 on the year, tallied an early escape in the third period to break a 2-2 tie after posting a first period takedown.  Pride senior Alton Lucas closed the Hofstra deficit in the match to one at 14-13 with a 16-4 major decision over junior John Foley (0-2). It was Lucas' third major decision of the season as the 10th-ranked wrestler from West Babylon, New York improved to 20-5 on the season.
