Towson, MD - Senior forward Miklos Szabo (Szeghalom, Hungary) had a career high 22 points on 11-14 shooting from the floor to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to an 84-64 win over Towson on Saturday afternoon in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams.

With the win, the Pride improves to 5-3 overall on the year, including 1-0 in the CAA after opening up with a road win at Towson for the second year in a row.  Towson falls to 2-4 overall with the loss, including 0-1 in the CAA.

Junior guard Charles Jenkins (Queens, NY) added 21 points for the Pride, one game after setting a career high with 38 in an 84-80 win over Fairfield on Monday. Freshman forward Halil Kanacevic (Staten Island, NY) added 10 points off the bench for the Pride, while Calvin Lee led Towson with 14 points.

Hofstra took a 38-27 lead into the break after a strong close to the first half. A three-pointer from Towson's David Brewster leveled the score at 15-15 with 9:50 left in the opening half, but Szabo hit back -to-back shots to start a 7-0 run that gave Hofstra a 22-15 lead. Junior guard Nathaniel Lester (Brooklyn, NY) and Jenkins each hit three-pointer to push the lead to 31-19, before the Pride settled for an 11-point lead at the break.

Towson got as close as eight points twice early in the second half, but Szabo shot 8-9 from the floor after the break to help put the game away. Szabo easily broke his previous career high of 12 points, set last year at Drexel, and also added a team-high eight rebounds on the day. Senior guard Cornelius Vines (Syracuse, NY) chipped in with a career-high six assists and no turnovers, while helping to hold Towson's Josh Thornton to 11 points on 4-13 shooting.

Hofstra will next be in action for a home game against Manhattan on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live by Verizon FiOS1 TV with Ralph Bednarczyk and former Villanova guard John Celestand as the broadcast team.
