PRIDE PLACE 19TH AT THE ECAC UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP

Bronx, NY - Sophomore Meghan McCloskey placed 57th to lead the Hofstra women's cross country team to a 19th-place finish at the season-ending 2009 ECAC University Cross Country Championship at Van Cortlandt Park Saturday.

McCloskey, a native of Brewer, Maine, clocked a 5K time of 19:35 to finish 2:10 behind individual champion Brenae Edwards from Mansfield University. The Pride tallied 512 points in the meet as Marist College captured the team title by placing three runners in the top 15 and finishing with 85 points. Albany was second with 119 points and Towson was third with 137 points in the 20-team field.

Hofstra freshman Brittany Potter was the Pride's second finisher, posting a time of 20:27 to place 115th while classmate Cara Mattson was 123rd in 20:34. Sophomore Katie Wiking was 150th in 21:09 and senior Steph Devlin was 177th in 21:54 to round out the scoring Pride runners. Senior LeeAna Benson was 179th in 21:59 and freshman Kirstin Kaija was 191st in 23:41 to wrap-up the Hofstra squad.
