HOFSTRA REMAINS 15TH IN THE W.I.N. MAGAZINE POLL

With less than two weeks remaining before hosting the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Wrestling Championship, the Hofstra Pride wrestling team remains in 15th place in the Wrestling International Newsmagazine's (W.I.N) 13th Division I Poll as of February 25. Hofstra has been ranked 15th for four consecutive weeks.

 

Individually, Hofstra continues to have five nationally-ranked wrestlers led by senior Charles Griffin (29-3) who remains third at 141 pounds. Junior Alton Lucas (21-4) remained sixth at 174 pounds this week while sophomore Lou Ruggirello (30-5), slipped one place to sixth at 133 pounds. Senior Dave Tomasette (28-7) remains seventh at 125 pounds while senior Joe Rovelli (23-4) remained ranked 10th at 197 pounds. W.I.N also produces a Division I Tournament Team Power Index. The Pride remained in 12th in that poll this week.

 

In this week's CAA rankings the Pride has seven wrestlers ranked number one, one ranked third, one ranked fourth and one ranked fifth. Seniors Dave Tomasette at 125, Charles Griffin at 141, and Joe Rovelli at 197, junior Alton Lucas at 174, sophomores Lou Ruggirello at 133 and Jonny Bonilla-Bowman at 157, and freshman Ryan Patrovich at 165 are all ranked number one. Freshman Justin Danz is ranked third at 184, senior Tom Daddino is ranked fourth at 285 and sophomore Mitch Smith is ranked fifth at 149.

 

Hofstra, which has captured seven consecutive conference titles including six in the CAA, will host the 2008 CAA Wrestling Championships at the David S. Mack Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8. Competition begins on Friday at 1 p.m. with quarterfinals at 3 p.m. and first round consolations at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the second round consolations begin at 10 a.m. with semifinals at noon, third round consolations at 2 p.m. and finals at 5 p.m. A tournament ticket, allowing for admission to all sessions, is available for $15.00 with single day passes priced at $10 for general admission and $5 for students and children.
