WEBER NAMED SECOND-TEAM NSCAA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICAN

12/17/2006 11:00:00 AM

Junior defender Sue Weber (Islip, NY - pictured) was named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Women's Scholar All-America Second Team, it was announced today.

Weber, who carries a 3.80 grade point average in physical education, was also named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I team earlier this year. She was chosen for Scholar All-America honors from a pool of Division I players from around the country.

A two-time Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, Weber has played every minue of every game for the Pride over each of the last two seasons after playing at Georgia as a freshman. A year ago, she became the first All-American in the history of the program, earning third-team honors from the NSCAA.

Weber also earned first-team All-Region honors from both the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz Magazine this year, after earning All-America honors from both a year ago. In 2005, she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the CAA Tournament after leading Hofstra to its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth with a CAA title. The Pride finished the 2005 campaign with a 14-4-3 record, including 8-1-2 in the CAA.

This past season, Weber helped Hofstra to a 9-8-2 record in a season which saw the Pride decimated by injuries. During one three-game stretch in October, Weber was the only starter left out of 11 from Hofstra's CAA championship team (six graduated, four were out with injuries). The Pride commonly started three walk-ons, including a season high of four against William & Mary.
