PRIDE CAPTURE THE 2005 HOFSTRA SPRING INVITATIONAL TITLE

Junior Michael Ciccarelli (Pictured) finished second with a 152 after a career-best 71 in the final round, and freshman Alex Lowenthal finished tied for fifth to lead the Pride to the 2005 Hofstra University Men's Golf Spring Invitational team title at the Harbor Links Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.

 

Hofstra, who posted a second round 306, finished with a two-round team score of 623 and won the tie-breaker over Monmouth (NJ) University, based on head-to-head play between the number five golfers. Fordham finished third with a 634 team score.

 

Ciccarelli (Commack, NY), who posted the low individual round in the tournament, finished one shot behind the tournament champion Brian McClure of Fordham. Ciccarelli finished with a 152 after rounds of 81 and 71. McClure finished with a 73 after an opening round 78 to capture the individual title.

 

Lowenthal (Massapequa, NY) shot a final round 80 to finish tied for fifth at 157. Junior Sean Dzugan (Massapequa, NY) shot an 82 on Tuesday to finish eighth at 159. Freshman Blake Gianniny (Rochester, NY) improved 10 strokes from his first round to shoot a 75 on Tuesday to place ninth with a two-day total of 160. Junior Chris Spinks (Shirley, NY) followed his first round 82 with an 80 to finish tied for 10th at 162.
