WASHINGTON LEAVES MEN?(TM)S BASKETBALL PROGRAM

11/21/2005 3:00:00 PM

Senior guard Gibran Washington (Jacksonville, FL/Mandarin) has left the Hofstra Men's Basketball program due to a chronic injury, it was announced today by Hofstra Head Coach Tom Pecora.

Washington will graduate early in December with a degree in management, and has a job offer with Pengeo, Inc. of Winter Haven, Florida, where he will begin working in January.

"The loss of Gibran will be a blow to our basketball team," said Pecora. "Not only was he a great basketball player for us, but he was also a great leader. We wish him the best of luck in his new position with Pengeo."

Washington played in 83 career games for the Pride, including 28 starts. He totaled 333 points, 165 assists and 107 steals in his three seasons. He had 10 points and 12 assists in a road 81-64 win at St. John's in the 2003-04 season, which is still the highest single-game assist total for a Hofstra player in the last seven years.
