ADELEKE NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-CAA

3/4/2004 7:00:00 PM

Junior forward Kenny Adeleke (Queens, NY/Robeson) was named first team All-Colonial Athletic Association, it was announced tonight at the annual CAA Awards Banquet.

Adeleke, who averaged 13.7 points and 9.3 rebounds on the season, was also named to the CAA All-Defensive team. Freshman guard Loren Stokes (Brooklyn, NY/Turner-Carroll) was named to the All-Rookie Team. Junior forward Michael Radziejewski (Jackson Heights, NY/Christ the King) was named to the CAA All-Academic team.

It marked the third straight season in which Adeleke has received an honor at the CAA Awards Banquet. As a freshman, he was named the conference's Rookie of the Year, while last season, he earned second team All-CAA honors. He was also a preseason first team All-CAA selection this fall in a vote of league coaches.

Adeleke currently ranks 14th on Hofstra's all-time scoring list (1,285 points) and fifth on the all-time rebounding list (829 rebounds) in only his junior season. He is well on pace to become only the third player in school history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. He also currently ranks third in the nation in career rebounding average (9.31 per game), trailing only Connecticut's Emeka Okafor and Mississippi State's Lawrence Roberts.

Stokes averaged 12.5 points and 4.4 rebounds on the season, and was the CAA's third leading scorer in conference games (15.7 ppg). He scored in double-figures in 19 of his 20 starts this winter, including the last 14 games in a row. He and William & Mary senior forward Adam Hess were the only two players in the CAA to rank in the top 15 in scoring, rebounding and assists in conference games. Stokes finished second to William & Mary forward Corey Cofield in the Rookie of the Year voting.

Hofstra finished the regular season with a 14-14 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the CAA. The fifth-seeded Pride will open play at the CAA Tournament against fourth-seeded Old Dominion on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Richmond Coliseum.
