, NY - Hofstra University freshman middle blocker Elizabeth Curley (Centerville, MA/Barnstable) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week in volleyball today, it was announced by the conference office. Hofstra, winners of two CAA matches last week, are in the midst of a six-match winning streak. It is the 11th consecutive season that the Hofstra Volleyball team has had at least a six-match winning streak.
With their current streak, Hofstra has improved their record to 7-10 and a perfect 3-0 in CAA play.
Against UNC Wilmington on Friday, Curley tallied five kills, five blocks, two service aces and two digs as the Pride cruised past the Seahawks in three games. Her five total blocks ranked third on the team in the contest, but her two solo blocks were a team-high. In addition, she was second on the team in service aces.
In Hofstra's dramatic five-game victory over William & Mary on Sunday, Curley came up with some huge blocking and serving to push the Pride to thier third straight CAA victory to open the conference slate. Curley posted team-highs of six blocks and three service aces, while finishing fourth on the team with nine kills.
For the season, Curley leads Hofstra with a .265 attack percentage, while ranking third on the team in blocks with 36.
Hofstra returns to action on Friday, October 10 when they host James Madison University at 7 p.m. This will be the first meeting since the Dukes ended Hofstra's 2002 season in the semifinals of the CAA Championship.
