Marcus Smith, a 2019 graduate of Hofstra University and a four-year starter on the men’s tennis team, completed his first season as an assistant coach with the Pride tennis programs in 2019-20.
Smith, who was a team captain, concluded his collegiate career at with a 66-46 singles record. The 66 victories rank second all-time at Hofstra. The Queens, New York, native also holds the career and single season record for doubles team wins with Jan Leithner as his partner. The duo won 52 matches together over the last three seasons, including a program-best 21 in 2018-19.
He earned his second career All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team selection after posting a 22-15 record in 2018-19. He was 13-7 in dual matches, all at No. 1 singles. Smith was also an ITA All-American National Championship participant for the second consecutive season and was a main draw selection for the ITA Regional Championship. He previously earned second team all-conference as a freshman in 2015-16.
Smith has served as a United States Tennis Association US Open Player Operations Coordinator for the past two years, organizing court and practice times and serving as a practice partner for numerous highly ranked professional players. He also served as an intern at ED&F Man Capital Markets in Manhattan.
Smith, a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative for three years, holds a degree in management.
