Lamar Barrett is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Hofstra Men's Basketball program in 2019-20.
Barrett assists in all areas of the program, including on-court coaching, scouting of opponents and the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.Â
Hofstra set a school record with 27 victories during the 2018-19 season and earned its first outright regular season conference title since the 2000-01 season. The Pride advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game and the regular season title earned Hofstra an automatic berth in the National Invitation Tournament.Â
While on staff at Hofstra, Barrett has been part of 61 victories for an average of more than 20 per season.Â
Barrett joined the Hofstra staff after spending three seasons at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He helped lead the Monarchs to the title at the inaugural Vegas 16 Tournament in 2015-16, in addition to being part of a program that reached the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament and twice finished as runner-up in Conference USA.Â
He assisted with all areas of the program, working closely with the compliance area, while playing a key role in the recruitment of student-athletes and scouting of opponents.Â
Prior to Old Dominion he spent three seasons at American University in Washington, DC, and served as the recruiting coordinator for the Eagles. Barrett helped recruit several all-conference performers at American and assisted in all areas of the program.Â
Barrett has also made stops at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut and Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut.Â
Barrett has worked at several elite academic institutions during his career, while also working with pre-collegiate students as the director of Hoop Group Elite, a teacher at Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, and as the co-founder and head coach of Prince George's County Select AAU program.Â
He also has worked as a counselor at the Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp in Trenton, New Jersey and at the Five-Star Basketball Camp in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.Â
Barrett graduated from Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, in 1994 with a degree in business administration, and was a two-year captain for the Vikings.
