Antwon Portley is in his fifth season on the Hofstra men’s basketball staff in 2025-26. He served as the program’s video coordinator for the first three seasons before being promoted to assistant coach in 2024-25.
Over the past four seasons, Portley has been part of a staff that has won 20 or more games in three consecutive seasons under the direction of Head Coach Speedy Claxton. In 2021-22, Hofstra won 21 games in Claxton’s rookie campaign and this past season the Pride won 25 games, captured the regular season Colonial Athletic Association crown, and advanced to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament after defeating Rutgers in the first round.
During the 2023-24 season, Hofstra captured 20 victories, advanced to the semifinals of the CAA Championship for the fifth time in the last six years and earlier in the season was crowned the champions of the Gulf Coast Showcase. The team also saw three different student-athletes earn postseason honors from the conference.
In addition, in each of his first two seasons on staff, Hofstra earned a victory over a nationally-ranked opponent.
Portley played two seasons at Fordham University after transferring from Saint Peter’s University, where he played a pair of seasons as well.
At Fordham, he averaged 10.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game during his senior campaign and also chipped in 54 assists and 22 steals. In his junior season he scored 11.4 points and added 3.5 rebounds per contest, while contributing 89 assists and 22 steals. He led the team with 69 three-pointers during the 2018-19 season.
In his first season at Saint Peter’s he averaged 14.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in 2015-16. He was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team and three times that season earned MAAC Rookie of the Week accolades.
Portley has also worked numerous basketball camps, including the Speedy Claxton Basketball Camp, the Chris Bosh camp and the Fordham Basketball Camp.
A native of Lancaster, Texas, Portley attended Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas.
Portley graduated from Fordham in 2019 with a degree in business economics. He earned his master’s degree in media management from Fordham in 2020.
