Former Hofstra field hockey captain Frankie O’Brien rejoins the Pride as a volunteer assistant coach.

O’Brien was a five-year member of the Hofstra field hockey team from 2017-21, and she played in 85 games while making 81 starts in a Hofstra uniform. O’Brien totaled 33 points in her five seasons with the Pride on eight goals and 17 assists. She was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2017 after tallying four goals and seven assists for the Pride.

O’Brien was named team captain every season since 2018, and she was selected to attend the 2021 NCAA Career in Sports Forum. O’Brien’s leadership did not stop there, as held the position of Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President for the 2020-21 academic year, presided on the CAA Voter Subcommittee in 2020-21, and was on the Hofstra SAAC from 2017-21. In 2021, O’Brien was honored by the Hofstra field hockey program with the Jonel Boileau Character Award for exemplifying traits of strong leadership, being an outstanding teammate, exemplary work in the classroom, and being a good friend to all.

In addition to her on-field efforts, O’Brien was noted for her work in academics. She was a five-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad, was named to the Hofstra Provost’s List for the Spring 2021 semester, and was named to the Hofstra Dean’s List three times.
 
O’Brien graduated from Hofstra in December 2021 with a double major in English education and English.
