Ron McKay is in his second season as volunteer assistant coach for the Pride Baseball program in 2016-17. McKay came to Hofstra after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at LIU Post.

During his four years at LIU Post, the Pioneers won 79 games. Before his tenure at LIU Post, McKay served for six seasons as an assistant on the NYIT baseball staff under Bob Hirschfield.

McKay also served as an assistant at SUNY–Old Westbury from 2000 to 2005, helping the baseball team to two NCAA Regional appearances, two Knickerbocker Conference titles and a pair of ECAC Championship berths.

McKay began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Queens College, in 1983 and then served as head coach for two seasons. McKay then joined the Chicago White Sox organization, where he coached in its minor league system for three years. Upon leaving the White Sox, he coached at Westbury High School and at Bethpage High School. McKay has been a clinician and instructor at the New York Baseball Academy since 1995 in addition to coaching at numerous other camps and clinics.

A member of the baseball team at Queens College, McKay was a member of the 1981 CUNY Conference championship and NCAA Regional team. He earned All-CUNY honors as a senior and was the recipient of the R.J. Tierney Award for outstanding dedication, ability, and conduct.

A 1984 graduate of Queens College with a degree in physical education, McKay also holds a master’s degree in education from Hunter College. He is a physical education teacher in the Westbury School District and lives in North Massapequa, New York, with his wife, Mary.
The McKay’s have two children, a son, Casey, who played baseball at LIU Post, and a daughter, Megan.
