Poll's Goal, Stellar Defensive Effort Leads #16 Hofstra Past Drexel

Hempstead, NY - Henri Poll's goal just over 6 minutes into the second half was the lone score of the game as No. 16 Hofstra picked up a 1-0 CAA victory over Drexel Saturday night at Captains Field. The goal was Poll's first of the season.

Hofstra moved to 4-0-1 on the season overall and 1-0-1 in the CAA with the win. Drexel is 2-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.

Following a scoreless first half that saw the Pride outshoot the Dragons, 4-2, Hofstra came out with intensity to start the second half. Hofstra forced the action and at 51:17 Axel Ruben sent a beautiful cross into the box from the left side that Poll headed past Drexel keeper Raphael Bartell for the 1-0 lead.

The Pride defense locked down the Dragons over the final 45 minutes, holding the visitors without a shot. Hofstra keeper Milo Risenhoover made one first half save to record his second shutout of the season.

The Pride will have a week between games as Hofstra returns to action next Saturday night, September 12 at Monmouth.
