Stony Brook, NY - Beatriz Braga had 16 kills and nine digs and Nil Kayaalp posted 21 digs as the duo led the Hofstra volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Stony Brook on Friday evening at Prichard Gymnasium.
The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improved the Pride's record to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in CAA play. Stony Brook dropped to 8-5 and 2-1 in league action. Set scores were 25-23, 28-26, and 25-22.
Hofstra dominated offensively over Stony Brook, out-hitting the home team, .209 to .132, in the contest.
The Pride's defense was also stellar, including finishing the match by holding Stony Brook to a .098 attack percentage in the third and final stanza.
Maria Afonso added 12 kills for Hofstra, while
Ellie Pamatat had 16 assists and eight digs and
Sonja Rundcrantz chipped in with 14 assists and five digs.
Julia Amorim had five blocks and five kills.
Ella Sanders led Stony Brook with 12 kills and added eight digs. Rayanne Wheat had 17 digs and nine assists for the Seawolves.
The two teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow night with a 6:31 p.m. first serve. The match will air on FloCollege.
