Hofstra Drops 2-1 Decision To Brown

Hempstead, NY - Angelina Vargas had a brace for Brown as the Bears overcame an early Hofstra goal for a 2-1 win Sunday at University Field. Amy Meadows had scored for the Pride 1:30 into the contest.

Hofstra dropped to 1-5-1 on the season with the loss, while Brown improved to 5-2-1. The Bears are ranked sixth in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll.

Meadows put Hofstra on the board through sheer will as she followed her own shot, got the rebound and scored past Brown keeper Addison Etter. But Vargas scored the equalizer at 8:11 off a pass from Joy Okonye to make it a 1-1 game.

The score remained tied until 3:27 into the second half when Vargas won a ball against Hofstra keeper Lilly Bailey, who came off her line to challenge, and put a shot into the empty net for her second of the game and fifth of the season.

Hofstra did not get a lot of scoring chances in the second half, though Alexia Bromfield's header on a long pass in from Hailey Moschitta was saved by Etter.

Bailey did her part to keep it a one-goal game as she had four second half saves, including three in a flurry of activity from the Bears in the final 15 minutes of play.

The Pride returns to action Thursday night when it hosts Seton Hall at 7 p.m. in the final non-conference contest of the season. The game will air on MSG Network and stream on FloCollege and Prime Video.
