Kang Leads Hofstra During Day One Of The Doc Gimmler

Farmingdale, NY - Eugene Kang shot rounds of 72 (+2) and 71 (+1) to lead Hofstra during the first day of The Doc Gimmler, hosted by St. John's, at Bethpage Red Course Saturday. Kang is tied for 26th at 143 (+3) after two rounds. As a team, Hofstra is 14th with a two-round score of 588 (+28).

Kang had five birdies, five bogeys, and one double bogey to log a first round 72. Starting on the 10th hole, Kang was three over after his first nine before closing out the round -1 on the front nine. The Pride senior had two birdies and three bogeys in his second round. 
 
Hank Kancher is tied for 45th at 146 (+6) following rounds of 72 (+2) and 74 (+4), while Gavin Clarke is tied for 55th at 148 (+8). Clarke had rounds of 73 (+3) and 75 (+5). Joseph Wong is tied for 77th at 152 (+12). Wong shot a first round 72 (+2) before a second round 80 (+10). Ethan Ju is tied for 79th at 153 (+13). The freshman shot rounds of 74 (+4) and 79 (+9) in his collegiate debut. Fellow freshman Lucas Kozak, playing as an individual, is also tied for 79th following rounds of 75 (+5) and 78 (+8). 

Theo Snyder of Yale leads the 82-player field with a 133 (-7) following rounds of 69 (-1) and 64 (-6). The Bulldogs also lead the 14-team field at 547 (-13). 

The Doc Gimmler continues Sunday with the final round. 

Notes:
-Wong had an eagle during his second round on the par 5, 528-yard fifth hole.
-Hofstra is ninth with 21 birdies. 
-The event marked the coaching debut of new Hofstra Director of Golf Ben Belfield.
