FDU Rallies In Second Half To Get Past Hofstra

Teaneck, NJ - Candela Espana's goal with less than four minutes remaining in the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and gave FDU a 2-1 victory over Hofstra Thursday night at Macron Stadium. The Knights scored twice in the second half to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Hofstra dropped to 1-4-1 on the season with the loss. FDU improved to 2-2-3 with the win.

The Pride opened the scoring at 5:47 of the first half following a corner kick. After the kick from Marika Svensson went through the box it was settled by Hailey Moschitta just inside the end line. The Pride sophomore sent a pass back in front to Emma Johnson, who sent it home for the 1-0 lead.

The Knights scored the equalizer just over 12 minutes into the second half as Marina Burzaco slid a shot past Hofstra keeper Lilly Bailey. Espana and Elisa Garcia were credited with assists on the goal. The game would remain tied until 86:24 when Espana took a pass from Izarbe Grao and found the back of the net for the game-winner.

Bailey finished with three saves for the Pride, while FDU keeper Rosemarie Leblanc notched five stops.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Brown. There will be a pregame block party outside of Captains Field beginning at 12 p.m.
